This thread has not seen any activity for a while but I thought it needed to to be opened again.
After over a decade of wearing a partial plate (upper) I've now gone the full denture route. I am still in the healing process and have yet to try the pipes although I did spend a few minutes on the PC without any problem but it did feel a little wierd at first. And these are the Golden Years??? :humm:

Here it is 16yr's after this post?
Well, I've had dentures (full upper's, partial lower) for 10yr's. The Dentist initially said there won't be a problem playing pipes with denture's in. I 've tried glueing them in. No help. I've NEVER been able to play with them in, (very embarrassing in public). I've tried a soft flat rubber mouth- piece who's name I can't recall. Even it didn't work. Anyone relating to this? cheers Douglas G cheers ![]() |

Take up drumming?
I think ‘twas Henry Ford is attributed with saying along the lines of...”..a man who says he can’t do something...or can do something...will always be right. “ Good luck. I finally had two front caps replaced with a bridge. Much better for playing...not your case I realize ...but do-able for me. Good luck. Last edited by el gaitero; 07-16-2018 at 02:37 PM. |

![]() Greetings to Douglas, and to All, And... you may all take this as being "Straight From the Horse's Mouth." (Oh groan... :) Having known many... older and younger... folks... people... patients... and pipers... who have had to undergo facial... dental... and mandibular surgery... and mere dentures were the sub-bottom least of some of their post-op difficulties (The trigeminal nerve can be a most recalcitrant opponent.) ... my recommendation is... always... The Reed Wrangler Ergonomic Mouthpiece. It's the best... "small potatoes"... you'll ever spend. While I have no economic interest in their company or their product... I have seen it work wonders for many pipers... with dentures... partial or full... as well as those without dentures... but who were just developing sore teeth and gums... and it aided all... both for their comfort... and for assisting them to the much wished for... additional playing time... :) Look it up on the net... and have a go... If you get one... and don't like it... send it to me and I shall happily pay you for it... because I often stumble into folks who need one... and if I can just hand them one... it saves them Time... and that ever-concomitant discomfort... that extra postal... Time... always entails... Regards to All, Pip01

Sometimes time is s needed to gather info lol We have a guy in the band that for whatever reason has bought an extra long blowpipe/mouth piece and has bent it to a curve I suspect ergonomics and comfort to be the reason. Quite genius in my mind if done right (so as not to restrict airflow) This might be a viable option. Also Pip mentioned the reed wrangler. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A PARTIAL
We have a guy in the band that for whatever reason has bought an extra long blowpipe/mouth piece and has bent it to a curve I suspect ergonomics and comfort to be the reason. Quite genius in my mind if done right (so as not to restrict airflow) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Greetings to All, Curved mouthpieces may be bought commercially... and with little expense (Ayrshire, and others?) ... which then saves having to stand over boiling pots of water... having to muck about with pliers and forceps... and hoping not... to bollix up a perfectly nice... and regular... mouthpiece... :) And... (Wait! There's even more!)... added to the Reed Wrangler... the business end of the curved mouthpiece... goes directly... into the mouth... with no angle... no pressure on teeth or lips... and with...no "drag"... (for the want of a better term)... I've seen more than one of this configuration... and the people who employ it... swear by it... Good Luck!!... and Comfortable Piping... to All, Pip01

Thanks to all and especially Pip01.
I got the ReedWrangler working by changing the position of the mouth-piece from the side of the mouth to the front of the mouth. who would guess? Simple me. cheers, Douglas G |

I would also suggest not biting down on the mouth piece.
