Increasing frequency

Hi,
I've turned my own GHB's from plans I inherited from a small-time maker many, many years ago.

The drones play at a lower frequency that modern pies - my question is - what changes would I have to make next time around e.g. narrower or wider drone bores, longer or shorter drone sections? Any advice on this or pointers to the theory much appreciated.

You need two things, a good instrument that you trust as a reference and reeds that perform well in that reference.

So first of all, what happens when you take reeds that are at the correct pitch in your reference and put them in your copy?

In terms of what to change, remember that a woodwind instrument is a sort of negative: it encloses a 3D piece of air, and that vibrating air is what we hear. You can reason about the vibrating air's behaviour as if it were a spring: if you make the column wider, it becomes stiffer, so will vibrate faster. If you make it longer, it takes longer for vibration to pass from one end to the other, and so on.
