Default Band merit ceremonies

Does your band do any type of merit ceremonies?
When new members work their way up to the parade band, or ceremonial band, or competition band, is there any recognition?

Our band never has, but we hadn't really considered it- good food for thought...

What you’ve described ,IMHO, is simply meeting a band expectation in exchange for all the free lessons, focu time, education ,etc.
Going into a higher grade solo comp 1st time and landing in the winners circle due to individual efforts is,I think, worth a wink and merit nod in front of the band...and as possible grooming for PS and upwards.

Just me...no participation trophies.

IMO, solo prizes have very little to do with one's contribution to a band. It's certainly cool when a bandmate wins a prestigious solo prize, but as a P/M, I'd rather recognize someone whose efforts as a bandsperson go above and beyond.

Greetings, 3D Piper, and to All,

Of the five bands of which I have been a member...
three have done such... but only two have had
them in quite "formal" circumstances.

In those two... an Annual Mess Night was held...
and recognition was given... for both the progress
of... and the contributions made... by members.

It was also... a damned fine dinner... and a fine
night of piping... and singing... and the telling of
tales... and general good comradeship... and...
there may have been... some drink involved... :)

These two also had some formal dinners around
other occasions... such as Poppy Day... and Burn's
Night... and other cultural and military occasions of
historic note.

For those bands-groups-mobs... who do not
have such... please allow me to recommend
(and highly!!) undertaking such activities... as
they are invaluable in bringing the different
members closer to one another... and thereby
helping to insure the cohesion... of your group.

And trusting that all... shall have a grand time of it!!,

Regards to All,

Pip01
