Default PM Recieved Notice

If I remember correctly in the old system if you sent a member a PM there would be a note on it when the member picked it up.

I don't see that on our present system, is it gone?

Cheers! Phil

I believe it's gone, Phil. There are a number of features I really miss from the old PM system, including threading of PM discussions.

..as of a few days ago there is still a box to tick at the page bottom if you want to be noticed when the member reads your PM.
Apparently no one is reading mine...I never get a return ping.

Yes there is a feature that tells you if the member opened the PM. It is the "read receipt" option. I believe it is a check box.

Andrew, I installed a threaded option a while back on the test system, I didn't get any feedback on that so I never implemented it here.

are you looking in the correct spot? At the top of the PM page (just underneath the inbox status) you should see a line to the effect of:

(1 confirmed message ... )

the line of text is click-able and will show you a list of PM's with a time stamp of when they were sent and read.

I've noticed some members don't bother to check their PM's, or don't update their email address so they don't get the email notification that they have received a PM.

In case anybody else is following this thread, there are 3 options for PM notification.

1) none (just a bold "x number of unread pm's) under your screen name in the upper right corner

2) email notification

3) pop-up notification

Presently the default setting is email notification only, unless it is changed by the member by going to the UserCP in the upper left corner of the forum.

Hmmm. I can't find that anywhere. I had turned on the feature to save a copy of sent messages and now that I look in the folder, I see the color-coded icon . . . a blue envelope means that it's read. (I stand corrected, the feature exists!)

If I recall, it worked in a really funky manner and we decided to not implement it---but so far, I've been wrong in this thread, so who knows!

Go to Track Messages to see if you have any receipts. Cheers! Phil.

Andrew: It's in the Additional Message Options area toward the bottom of the Send New Private Message screen. It's the first option - Request a read receipt for this message.

If I recall correctly, though, the recipient is given the option whether or not to allow the notification to be sent to the sender.
