Default Mics for small pipes

Hi

I'm thinking of busking with Northumbrian small pipes and would like to use a loop pedal so I can play duets. Has anyone any experience of micing up pipes? And if so, did you have problems with feedback, what mics did you use, did you need a preamp etc.

Many thanks

Jon

Default Re: Mics for small pipes

For 2 years now I have been using two Audio-Technica ATR3350 condenser mics. (may still be available from Amazon) with a Y adapter and plugging them into a Roland Micro Cube amplifier.
Using two cheap music stands with the top part removed I place one mic. near my chanter and other mic. as high as I can get it to the ends of my drones.
The Roland Amp. can be plugged in or uses 6 AA batteries. The amp also features a nice variety of effects (reverb, tremolo, chorus, etc). It also has a good gain control which helps control feedback.
I tried using a looper but had a hard time with it. I imagine with considerable practice it could be mastered. Perhaps a higher quality looper works better, I went cheap!
When I perform outside I use this set-up to increase my presence.
Good Luck
