Where to start?
I think two albums that seemed to be omens of a seismic shift
in pipe band styles;
78th Frasers Live in Ireland
SFU Nous Sommes Pret
And for solo, well anything by Alasdair Gillies
But then it depends on what I listened to most recently.
So many recordings, So little time.
Cheers

Well I am a piobaireachd nutter. So based upon what recordings I use all the time I would have to say

1. The Masters of Piobaireachd--the two Bob's
2. Tutorials of Donald MacLeod
AND
the P/S web site recordings

At the moment, I'd say:

1.) Dr. Angus MacDonald, "A Sireadh Sp˛rs"
Some of the cleanest, most musical playing you'll ever hear.

2.) Gordon Duncan, "Just for Seumas"
Need I say more? I've listened to it probably thousands of times since the age of 16, and it never gets old.

3.) Probably a tie between Fred Morrison's "The Broken Chanter" and Allan MacDonald's "Dastirum."

Three that were formative for me:

- 78th Frasers - Live in Ireland
- Battlefield Band - Home Ground
- Fred Morrison - The Broken Chanter

I've always enjoyed the Robert Mathieson CDs - seems they have fallen out of favor.
And I have a wonderful Donald MacPherson CD complete with booklet.

", I'm surprised that so far (unless I've missed it) no one has mentioned P/M Angus MacDonald's "From the Castle"

Sublime. CD Just arrived in the post .
