Default Re: The iconography of PM Evan MacRae

Ah, quite right about the piper of the 25th (pictured above), wearing reversed colors like a regular musician. I forgot about that painting, altho' I do have it in a book I have someplace on the shelves.

Interesting to see another picture (also above) of Cpl. Piper Campbell (Camerons) also with an Erracht Cameron bag cover (not green). I wish I knew more about why this sometimes occurs.

In the Canadian pipers photo, some of those tartans look like the MacGregor. So, Essex Scottish, perhaps?

Col. David Murray, a wartime Cameron Highlanders officer, in an interview in the documentary "Battlelines," talks about how the Camerons resented their pipers being ordered into the Royal Stuart tartan in 1943 and that they didn't even get around to getting re-kitted until long after the war, c. 1948, when the subject came up for some ceremonial affair. I'd like to see some photos of Cameron pipers after 1944 and before 1948 showing them in anything BUT Cameron tartan, to confirm or refute this.

Looks like 4 Scots (Highlanders) pipers, besides wearing the Cameron of Erracht kilt, also wear the Gordon bag cover and MacKenzie pipe ribbon.
