Very cool. Particularly interested in the similarities between the Celtic and Slavic music mentioned. I'm always looking for cool new music.

The guy they're interviewing is Artemy Vorobyev (we're FB friends).

The other source of surprises will be Germany. There's a nascent and fast-growing band scene over there and I wouldn't be a tiny bit surprised to see them produce a grade one band in ten years time.
Europe fields a grade 2 band, Balagan, which made it through the qualifiers first time at the worlds. Members from all over Europe, but also further afield, including my neighborhood. European talent has proven itself just in that one band. What's more are the teachers there of quality. Scottish and Canadian teaching has been successfully passed on.

Maybe Russia next. Ochei Chornei on the pipes.

It is only a project. it can not be called a full-fledged pipeband. Work has just begun. We are only in a first step. (In Kiev there are 4 GHB pipers, in Ukraine about 7-8 at all)

Or may be jews have their ancient bagpipes? I have not heard and not seen.
But, by the way, ukrainians have their own bagpipes - Carpathian bagpipes appeared 200 years earlier than the Scottish ones.

So, for us, ukrainians, the bagpipes are more natural than for the jews and russians

David,

Care to post links to those Russian pipe related websites that you speak of? They would be of great interest to peruse.

A good few years ago when we gathered to start a Piobaireachd tuition week at the COP, one of the class was a young Russian man from Moscow, who if I remember correctly had never had a 'live' lesson in his life but who had studied piobaireachd playing via the Donald McLeod Tutorials on CD. And he was confident with it, even daring to question Andrew Wright on a couple of things! However, again, iirc, we all, tutor included, had to admit he'd made a very good stab at it. I hope he continued and managed to fix up something at least via Skype or similar.

Actually Highland pipes are not unusual in Israel. Lots of Arab scout bands. We have a few pipe majors, retired and grade 2 active. Small but established.

I sm curious if the GHB might have an advese effect on licsl volynka in some instance.
