Default Want Estimated Value on a set of Pipes

I have a set of 1933 Robertson full silver mounted in the Runic design. They are ABW. All original. No defects or cracks. No restoration or repairs. Has original stamped silver soled chanter. Ivory hemp stops. The set was purchased some years back from Jimmy MacIntosh. I believe that I am the third owner of this set. I understand it was made special order for a wealthy business man. I’d like some feedback as to the value of such a set. All feed back appreciated. Thanks

I'd check with Ringo at http://www.thebagpipeplace.com/

They sound like north of $3K!

Gr8 Piper,

As I am most certainly not... a qualified judge of
such matters... but shooting from the hip... and in
the dark... I would hazard at least $3,000 USD...
and possibly... as high as $4,000... or more...

But... I would inquire of Ringo at The Bagpipe Place
and John Recknagle at Classic Bagpipes. Both are
internationally well regarded... and both have assisted
and saved me... from dire oversights... :)

Sounds a fine set!!

Congratulations on your having it!!

Regards,

Pip01

I would also consult Jim McGillivray in addition to Ringo. He has a wealth of knowledge as Ringo does plus sells such sets and knows the market.

Pre-WW2 full silver is much rarer than late 20th-century full silver, less people could afford such a set in the earlier 1900's, let alone the 19th century. Depending on condition a classic and fully original pre-WW2 full silver Robertson would, or should be worth about twice the abovementioned estimate, in the $6000-7000 range if you can find a buyer willing to pay the price. A full silver set hallmarked to 1904 with regimental history (A&S) sold for 6000 a few days ago. Not perfect, maker unknown, but a very rare set with a pedigree bonus.

They are work about $10. I'm sending over a Paypal payment right now.

That's certainly in the right ballpark, especially when you consider what a modern full-silver set would cost.

And never mind the silver, Robertson was one of the finest pipe makers ever. Even all blackwood sets fetch $3,000,00 USD or more. Jim McGilivray says that he has never come across a bad set of Robertsons, and he is producing with Dunbar sets of replica Robertsons.
