Default Drone reed recommendation for mid 70s Lawrie pipes.

Hello everyone. I have a couple of sets of mid seventy Lawrie pipes that Iíve owned and played since new. Over the last couple of years Iíve noticed greater difficulties tuning the drones up to pitches above around 474. This was not always an issue, but I know that this vintage Lawrie have the reputation of tuning notoriously flat. I currently use original Kinnaird drone reeds in both tenors and bass. Iíve always been happy with tone and air efficiency. Even now, with the slides showing only about 1 1/2 inches, they sound ok. But in one set, Iíve replaced the nose cone tuning screws with a nylon screw with the head removed, which allows me to turn it so that it protrudes above the nose cone into the reed body. All in an effort to get the drone tops into a better tuning position and better sound. To no avail, and the stability is a bit of an issue.

Anyone had a similar issue with any make pipe and found a drone reed that works to essentially sharpen the drone to allow a flatter tuning position up around the hempline?
Thanks,
Ewan

I prefer the Kinnaird Evolution reeds in Lawries of that era because they tune just a bit higher than the original or Edge styles. Air efficient too. Buzzy, but fun.

EZ Drone reeds....the Ďshortí model. Same great EZ tone but meant to provide about/up to/approximately 1/4Ē higher tuning.
FYI...Best prices for these Iíve found is at Northwest Bagpipe Supply.
