Default New Athertonís

Iím new to piping, (3 months) I have a coach and I currently practice at least an hour a day. I was fortunate enough to buy a set of Atherton Legacy bag pipes from Dave Atherton. Dave recommends rocket reeds for his pipes and I noticed theyíre no longer being made. If any of you have any youíre willing to sell please let me know.

Knowing that and moving on with the times....many other reeds will work as well. Strange a maker would continue to recommend only a single make of reeds not available. My understanding is they are made specifically for the specific pipes ...so good luck finding the exact match.
Meanwhile ....a set of EZ drone reeds will get you going to a point of not having to look back for not likely existing Rockets.

Thanks for your help, and you are correct. I reread Daveís email and he also recommended EZ drone reeds. It was an older publication that discussed rocket reeds. I turn 50 this year and my 30 year goal to play the bag pipes is finally coming to fruition. Iím a little over eager and trying to find the best of every thing.

The Legacy set are superb bagpipes. I strongly suggest trying a set of Kinnaird Evolution (not Edge) drone reeds.

I've used Rockets in mine since day 1, but have tinkered with others....I also like a loaner set of Selbies. I am also willing to try others knowing that my taste in sound will change down the road.

Thanks John, I actually received my order from Henderson today and Kinnaird reeds I ordered are Edge. Is this going to be a problem? Thanks for everyoneís help.

Hi Hal, I didn't mean to imply Edges were a problem. I just like the Evolution in my Legacy set a bit better.

If you have the money and the curiosity, then eventually you'll probably buy a lot of different reeds, just to find out what difference they make.
