Default International Piping Event: 75th V E Day

Greetings to All,

As... in all probability... more people wander
(stumble? :) into The Beer Tent... than wish
to have things "announced" to them... and
with our Moderator's forbearance... I shall
now place this notice here... as well.

There is now an international piping effort
afoot for the commemoration of V E Day...
and the ending... of the European part... of
World War II.

Solos... groups... and bands... are all invited
to strike in and play... "When the Battle's O'er"...
at exactly 3:00 PM... or 15:00... on the 8th of May...
and in what ever local time zone... any may be.

Information and registration for this may be
found on their web site.

Their web site is: VEDay75.org.

Sounds a grand idea to me.

Let us see what we can do...

Regards to All,

Pip01

Not to take anything away from VE Day, I have registered for this, but as an American, I think we're missing soething if we don't do something similar (or greater) for VJ DAY in August. That date, I think, really marks the end of the World War.

My late father served in India and what is now Pakistan during the War, and was on his way home when the surrender was signed in Tokyo Bay.

I am getting my band to work up this tune so we can participate.

Just wondering,,,Is there a drum score written, or is everyone using Massed Band 6/8

According to this UK Govt website -

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/2...sary-of-ve-day

"Commemorative events will take place over the 3-day weekend across the country, including:

……

bagpipers playing the traditional Battle’s O’er at the top of the 4 highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, Mount Snowdon in Wales, and Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland"

I took a look at the sheet music for the VE 75 Years tune (at https://www.veday75.org/downloads/). I'm not an experienced reader of music, but the order of the lines is confusing to me. Is this my inexperience, or might this be improperly inscribed?

From what I can see, the .bww file seems also to be a bit wonky.

I'm not going to download something from an unknown (to me) site, so I'll have to take your word for it.

It was funny to see the "English Heritage" logo beside a photo of a pub called The Caledonian.

I wonder if they know what Caledonian means.

Sheet music - the plain version - looks fine to me.
