Default Custom tunic supplier

Our regimental band wears a reproduction Great War uniform. It's made of modern suit fabric, but the same colour as world war one battle dress and made to the same cut (pockets, shoulder pads, epaulets, etc).

Unfortunately, our previous supplier has closed up shop and we are having trouble finding another who can manufacture these tunics at a price slightly less than railroad cars full of bullion and kidney donations.

I have no problem dealing with an off shore supplier, provided they have a quality product, but I do not know of any. Are there any bands out there who have custom tunics with a manufacturer they are pleased with and can recommend?

49th!!

First... Welcome Aboard!!

Secondly... and just a thought... if your lot is
just needing repairs here and there... and
just one or two new tunics as new members
join... there are several good seamstress
and tailor shops floating about... who should
be able to accommodate you... and even if
they are at some distance and so require the
Canada Post.

In determining a fair price for all... the prospect
of on-going orders and work from your lot is a
valid point of consideration (or certainly should
be) for any shop (or single tailor) that you may
approach.

If that does not come to any appreciable fruition...
then an overseas jaunt will be in order.

I don't know of any such... but if you then draw
a further blank... put another shout up here and
we'll beat our collective bushes... and locate a
good shop for you.

Regards,

Pip01

We are definitely needing to manufacture several new tunics from scratch. We have some new members to kit out who will not fit our existing stocks of tunics.

I don't mind dealing with a domestic supplier at all. In fact, a Canadian supplier would be preferable due to the obvious advantages of that. Unfortunately, I've been searching for a while with no luck. Most tailor shops in Edmonton will only do alterations. I've received quotes from the two tailors in the city who can make from scratch and they both want approx $1000 per tunic. There's no way we can afford that.

Domestic labour costs being what they are, that is why I am open to an offshore supplier, if I could find one that is reliable and of good quality.

Tailoring is simply time-consuming, there's no real way around it.

In terms of finding someone, if you know any theatre people you could ask for costume contacts - they will be able to tailor things but also able to talk through cheaper options and the implications.

There are some re-enactor supply houses that might be able to help. It has been a while since I want looking, but I'd be surprised of there weren't SOME of them weren't able to help.

This interests me, because Battle Dress was introduced in 1937.

If you mean WWI Service Dress tunics, there are companies in India and Pakistan that make nice copies.

They're much cheaper getting them direct, but What Price Glory sells them in the USA for a markup.

https://onlinemilitaria.net/products...-Tunics/?bc=no

But those are made of the original type of fabric which is heavy wool.

There's a company in India called Replicaters (sic) that makes very nice replicas of military doublets and tunics especially if they have an original to copy. If you sent them one of your tunics they could probably make exact copies including the fabric you want.
