Very impressive, Wulls. Question: '30s Centers. I did not realize Center was making pipes in the '30s. At least in Edinburgh, I thought Robertson took over decades before that (then again, I'm not an expert on pipe makers). Were these from Australia?

John Center died in 1914 after immigrating to Australia in 1908. His son James, a famous piper, worked with and immigrated with his father and died in Australia in 1919 according to Ringo's site "The Bagpipe Place".

I have 3 sets:

1. ca 1900 John Center
2. 2005 Kron Heritage (turned by David Atherton)
3. 2015 Doucet/McGillivray repro of 1880 J&R Glens

Number 3 are my band set as they weigh only 3 1/4 lb (sticks), and I found the Krons to be heavier than I liked on band engagements (eg two and a half hours on the parade square). The Centers are indoor pipes only.

My original c1870 Glens weren't particularly light (ebony with ivory and plain Silver).

The lightness champions were my c1905 ebony Lawries (due to the TARDIS effect).

My current band pipes, c1940s Lawries (ABW with ABW projecting mounts) are surprisingly heavy.

I had no reason to doubt the est date when I was given them but as you say it don't match up !!!!!
I'll dig them out and post some photos, maybe the hive mind here will offer a better date than I can

2011 McCallums, 2016 Dunbar DB3's

I wouldn't mind getting another, maybe one of those reproduction pipes offered by Mr. McGillivray

That's quite a collection. What are you playing most?

Up til now the Athertons have been my "daily driver". The G&C was my first set and I played them for many years up until I got the Athertons. They're almost never played now. Currently I'm mostly playing the Kintails, getting them ready for the abuse of St. Pat's. Simultaneously I'm also exploring the Robbies -- they're the most recent acquisition. I've only a few hours total on them. Still trying to figure reeds, etc. The Hendies are for special occasions. ;-)

Probably one of the sets should go away...
