Default Number of Competitions

Looking at your band's participation in competitions (if, of course, your band competes) over the last few years, and in anticipation of the coming season, is your band competing in more games, fewer games or about the same.

When I joined our band nearly 40 years ago, we were competing in a minimum of 6 competitions, from BC, down through Washington and Oregon, to California. In the past 20 years, that dropped to perhaps 4; and in the last 10 to 1 to 3. This year, we had planned on 3; but it now appears we'll do just one (Portland). A lot has to do with members aging, along with some apathy, as well as rule changes from the regional governing body (BCPA). However, we're looking at at least 3 for next year, for we have gained some members, recently, who are more interested in competition.

So what's the trend, if any, in your band...and why?

Default Re: Number of Competitions

The fact that contests are now going to be cancelled aside, I've played in several local bands over the last 45 years and the number of contests these bands have done has remained pretty much the same.

There are only a few local contests, and these various bands have tended to limit the long-distance contests to one or at most two a year.
