Default Electronic Tone Trainer

Good Morning everyone,

I have a project that I am working on for my MBA Economics class at the University of Maine. For this project, I have to do a demand survey for a hypothetical product. The product I have chosen is an Electronic Bagpipe Tone Trainer.

[Description]
The "Electronic Bagpipe Tone Trainer" is a device that would plug into the top of your middle drone, much like a rubber stopper. This device has an electronic pressure sensor that will wirelessly (through Bluetooth) send data to a synced smartphone. The user interface from this device is an app that you install on your smartphone. While playing your instrument the application generates a heads up, game interface. This interface will display your configured target pressure zone, user-configured gates around that zone(e.g. +/- 2 inches/H2O), and your current real-time blowing pressure. You will receive a visual indication when you are inside of your target zone and when you are above or below your target zone. You will acquire points for every five seconds you remain in the zone and you will lose points when you go outside the zone.

This is the link to the survey: https://forms.gle/aGsPnuVZYBb4WY7a7

The collected data will be destroyed at the end of the class. Thank you for your consideration and/or participation.

Thanks to everyone that has taken time to fill out this survey. It has been super helpful and I am only 5 responses from having the data I need to start the next phase of this project. If you have not had a chance to fill it out, it is completely anonymous, the data will be destroyed at the end of the semester and it should only take 5 minutes.

Thanks again,
Dave

Instead of plugging into a drone top and in a sense altering actual playing conditions...mightnít someway placement of the sensor in the bag provide a more accurate playing condition reading...and all based on steadiness of bag pressure.

I agree. I have pondered an extension to the blowpipe or chanter stock that contains the sensors. I am not sure how universal that would be. I was thinking that it would be best to have something that is temporary although it is conceivable that you can cut and glue a sensor into the bag. Honestly I was not really intending on doing much with this outside of the MBA assignment, but looking at the materials available it might be possible to put something together that is cost effective. Maybe as a product for sale, maybe open source as a DIY project.

Thanks everyone for your assistance with this survey I was able to get enough data to move my research project forward.

Turns out after talking to my professor I will need 3 more survey results after going through the data. If anyone has a spare 5 minutes, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I have this device and it works fairly well. Itíd be even better coupled to a pitch detector so you can see the direct effect of pressure and pitch.

The tuning app I mainly use, BeeFlat, has a really nice pitch trace that shows what your chanter did over the last few seconds. I've found it really helpful for showing students what their blowing is actually doing to their sound.
