Default Re: Bass drone shutting down during playing

Sorry, there is a typo, it should be is 487 Hz

Both pipes and drones are poly set from Bagpipes Galore, as I wanted second set for practicing in harsh weather (I'm currently posted in Pakistan). The reeds are "inverted" (to be found here
Code:
http://www.bagpipejourney.com/articles/dronereedsid.shtml
), just search bagpipes galore.

I tried to move it very carefuly, but now there is a monsoon season, so very humid. Combined with my moist breath it's not a good combination and the drones kept shutting down (didn't happen before when the weather was dry). I think I slowly moved the rubber about 5mm in total, so they don't shut anymore, but I cannot tune it (apart from bass drone), because of the tuning pins...

IMO it is a combination of various factors, but really annoying. Maybe I'll try to install some higher-pitched and easier-to-sound chanter reed for the season

Completely closed tenors isn’t out of the realm of possibility at 487 Hz with flattened drone reeds. I don’t know if moisture control is even feasible, but a flatter chanter certainly couldn’t hurt.

Tape is your best friend

Marine pinstriping tape if you can get it

Best of luck. Sounds like a terrible climate for pipes.

You mean to somehow flatten the reed?

The weather is truly not very good, after a year here with ABW pipes I decided to go poly... Funny thing is that the overall time I spend with tuning here (compared to back home) helped me to understand system of moving reeds, birdles, drones etc. Just these days I needed some help...

So Sacramento....Are your drones back working? It took almost a week of fine adjusting the reeds (EZdrones) to get them to fire up properly. Interesting, before I was able to strike in at Bb 466. Even my chanter is now sharp and I haven't switched reeds. I have everything tuned and running at 476. This will be an issue when playing with the band.

If everything drops down to 466 after the weather cools in October then I'll know what the issue was.
