Looking to get information on bagpipe refurbishment, is it a good idea?
What kind of cost I could expect for a complete over-haul? And most importantly, who is best to go with for the work to be carried out? All information is greatly received and appreciated. Thanks. |

My preference is Dunbar.
They will help you with evaluating what, if anything, needs doing. Price depends upon the current condition of your pipes and what is involved for repair, restoration, and preference. The can be many options for some parts. For instance, cracked blowpipes May be repaired or retired. In my instance with my set of Robertson pipes, I had Dunbar reproduce a blowpipe stock using delrin-lined Blackwood for a permanent and low maintenance fix to reduce future cracking. They also made a delrin blowpipe and stock replacement for my set of WW I ebony wood-mounted set of Lawries...again, for a permanent fix that looks great. Cheers, Mac |

I think that an old set looks better if it does indeed look like an old set.

If you can't find anyone locally or in Scotland (there's got to be some of the best where you are), then absolutely Dunbar. Shipping will hurt, but Rick Pettigrew is one of the best in the world.

Blue MacMurchie just outside Edinburgh, Scotland. Does an excellent job, sympathetic to the bagpipe and what I mean by that is that he does not over restore it. He uses a waxed finish as opposed to varnish. Not hard to pay for any work I've had done although it depends what exactly what work you're looking carried out. Check out his website, MacMurchie Bagpipes for address and phone number.

Are the pipes worth refurbishing?
What band are you with? Some very knowledgeable people in Leinster. Paul

Ringo could offer "opinion of Value" then yes, absolutely, Dunbar.
They have done amazing work for a few of my older sets. SO did Ron for that matter. ![]() God speed.
