I am wondering if any of the real Pipe ID experts here can help me ID this pipe. It seems to be unusual because on the bottoms of the tenor drone tops there are four beads, and I cannot find anywhere, on internet sites, or in books, a set of pipes with these four beads.
I can see similarities with some Glen and even some MacDougall but I'm a bit stumped at the moment. Any help gratefully appreciated. www.pipereeds.com/pipe-id.html Colin MacLellan

I've seen some Henry Starck pipes with 4 beads on the tenor tops.

Gord, Many thanks. I took a look at Starck on Ron Bowen's site and did not spot anything, but after your post I looked again, and lo and behold, one pic only of a pipe with the 4 beads. I've posted that pic amongst the others on the website link I provided. I think they are in fact Starcks now. They are not identical mount wise, but really very close.
Do you mind having a look at the pics and confirming if you think they are Starcks now? Thanks, Colin

Hi Colin,
Ron Bowen and George Hannah are the Starck experts, I'd email them some good side profile shots for their opinion. If you don't have their contact info, email the pics to me at gord@islandbagpipe.com and I will pass them along. Cheers Gord

The combing and beading on the stocks doesn't appear to match the drones, which adds to the puzzle. I agree that the drones have some Starck-like features.

Thanks Dan, the pipes belong to a friend from my Maxville days, he was just wondering what they were. I did not spot this.

I have two pre-WW2 Starck blowpipes that are both stamped above the PJ mount. I suspect that Starck was the only maker to stamp his blowpipes (maybe they were custom replacements?). You could take a close look at yours and check if there is a stamp too.
