Some items stamped Roleston have come up on Ebay.
Smallpipes with Brian Boru style chanter https://www.ebay.com/itm/Billy-ROLES...wAAOSw5B9erYF5 Brian Boru style smallpipe chanter? practice chanter? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Billy-Roles...r/114208496076 I'm not familiar with him as a maker, or with the fingering system his chanters use. You can search "roleston" here on Dunsire and see him discussed in several threads.

That seller is also selling a few sets of pipes. Are they old? The bags on some of them might suggest so.
They're selling a lot of piping related stuff but don't seem to know too much about it. |

They've got two sets of GHBs and the blowpipes are switched between the sets. I've messaged them -- hopefully they'll switch them so that the buyers get matching parts. One of the auction listings says "...acquired in a joblot from the late Billy Roleston..." and the seller's name is "vintagetools...". If I were to hazard a guess, I'd guess he bought the contents of Roleston's workshop at auction for the tools and got these in the bargain.

I remember seeing adverts for his "Irish smallpipes" but a can't remember where. Also came across his name online here
http://www.angelfire.com/music3/oreg...and/pipes.html http://www.angelfire.com/music3/oreg...d/history.html I seem to remember seeing one of his products at the Bagpipe Music Museum in Ellicott City, MD and got the distinct impression that his "friends in the trade" who "manufactured these pipes after Henry Starck retired" were in Sialkot. |
