Default Games cancellations

With the RSPBA cancelling (so far) 3 or the 5 majors and seeing what’s being cancelled around here, what Games are being cancelled in your neck of the woods?

So far around here we have Woodland, Vegas, and Costa Mesa cancelled. I expect San Diego will follow suit.

At this rate, do you think there will be any 2020 competition season at all?

No. None. Zip,Zero,Nada. Not with the Feds stating potentially July-ish or later before a sort of meaningful glimmer at the end of the tunnel.
Then,,even with an all clear flare fired many Klingons will stay away regardless.

There will be a blank space on many big trophies this year. world wide.

Greetings to All,

Games cancelled?!

As the Good Doctor Johnson said in that now and
rather Long Ago (1700s)... "You may depend upon it!"

That... and a growing great deal... of Everything Else!!...
as more and more areas of North America... are put on
a... Shelter In Place... and... Stay At Home... restriction..

The rapid spread of this insidious contagion... is going
to more rapidly grow... and exponentially!!... for some
long time to come!!

And I shall not be surprised... if this continues to get
worse... and worse... and worse... and quite well into
the Summer... and quite possibly... into the Fall...

As 'twas said by one of the participants in the American
Revolution... "The times have found us!"

And our lot now... is to follow the public health guidelines...
so that patients... we do not become... nor carriers be!!

And... thereby... guarding ourselves... and our families...
likewise... we equally guard others... with whom we do
not... come into contact...

At this stage in... The Game... it is impossible... to know
who is an asymptomatic carrier... and who is not!!

So let us rise to this occasion... with seemingly little to
actually do... save sit upon our haunches... in the comfort
of our homes... but... this doing little... shall accomplish
much!!... and shall assuredly assist... in the shortening...
of this present scourge...

Wishing Good Health... and Patience... for all of us!!

Pip01

I do agree it will get worse before it gets better. But I also believe that the timeline and bell curve will come more rapidly. If so, I see summer games potentially being on. Up our way, the BC Indoor was cancelled; and I expect the earlier games--say, into May--will not occur. But I do look forward to those games in July and beyond to occur. Perhaps not June, however.

Am I being optimistic? Perhaps. However, I envision a more near-term curve and descent. That said, it truly is a 'who knows?' scenario.

I can't see any competitions happening in Scotland this year......
We should be right up to speed round about now with only minor tweaking to do, all thats left is working on sound and getting the competition set ingrained.
It's not viable or sensible to practice together right now so when we recommence in say 3 months it is into July before we start practicing again.
The chances of a band being really up to speed by mid August is slim.
That's best case.
People are going to die.
Consider this.
The majority of RSPBA adjudicators are not young men with the majority being in the high risk category.
Bottom line is bands won't be ready and there will still likely be restrictions on gatherings of any sort.
Id say the season's a burst.

It would be an incredible moment if they did competitions online this year to keep spirits up with something unprecedented and truly amazing. Jori Chisholm already does something similar and it's brilliant. It is back again this year considering current events.

Alaska has only one Highland Games always the last weekend of June. I've already resigned from participating even if they keep the show going on!

I work in the medical field with high risk patients and the last thing they need is to contract the COVID.....especially from ME!

Lucky for me, I like myself and self quarantining is no big deal. I still pipe every day.

In this area, we have one Games in the books (Queen Mary) and two upcoming ones listed as cancelled (Las Vegas and Costa Mesa).

I just checked the websites of two others, no news of cancellations yet (San Diego and Pleasanton).

The Games we call "Pleasanton", rightly The Caledonian Club of San Francisco Scottish Gathering and Games, has been held annually since 1866.

It has been held without fail in spite of earthquakes, two World Wars, and the Great Depression. The Games have survived everything so far- will it survive this?
