Default Anyone know of a maker of cow horn mounts in the UK?

Hi to all, and hope you are well?

I have an old set of highland pipes that I am doing up, and sometime in the past a previous owner replaced the ferrules with what seems to be home made aluminium ones. I like aluminium on pipes but they are poorly done here and out of place on this set. So, does any one know of anybody in the UK capable of making cow horn or brass mounts? A search of google found nada, so I am not that hopeful

Ta will

Really? No 'bull'?

The idea of cow horn 'udderly' fantastic. I realize the 'steaks' are high for this transition and without 'milking' this thread, I would just like to 'mooooove' on by saying it may be best to 'farm' the work out.

I know a seller of bovine horn in France but he only answers request when he is in a mood. My last order in January was left unanswered. Sadly, because his horn is of good quality.

Julian Goodacre in Peebles makes Highland pipes and smallpipes with real horn mounts.

He has measured a number of 18th century drones and chanters and makes exact reproductions, including using the original materials which are local native Scottish hardwoods and mounts of cow-horn.

Julian does great work!! My smallpipes, made by him, have cow horn mounts and they are lovely!! Good luck to you and send pictures of the pipes when you have them all fitted out
