Many makers of smallpipes have been supplying their sets with wooden pegs for s long, long time. I would suggest that a pipe maker would know what works and what is best for shutting off drones. Armed with that knowledge, I would not be afraid of using golf tees for drone stoppers.

For poly kitchen pipes, I like the rubber stopper idea, too.

I have even used a piece of electrical tape, which can be removed and stuck to the drone top for quick retrieval.

Guitar bridge end pins work fine in my set. You can find some very nice ones on line.
