Default Music writing software and scanning

Do any of the programs on the market have the facility to scan in manuscript and then edit it (analogous to OCR)? The intention is to publish a collection of music assembled by the late William M. MacDonald of Inverness.
Thanks

There was software that used to be bundled with Sibelius (maybe still is) that could take a scanned image and OCR it to Sibelius. My version of Sibelius is an older one, so I don't know whether this is still the case. The software was called Photoscore.

Their website is:

http://www.neuratron.com/photoscore.htm

Hope this helps,

Charlie

Thanks, Charlie. Photoscore looks as if it might do the job.

Best wishes

Paul

I have photoscore in Sibelius 4, which is probably 10 years old now.

It worked really well the one time I used it. I had a piano score of a beatles tune that needed to be arranged for strings. It easily separated everything out without any errors.

If it is handwritten, the scanned scores will require so much editing and proofing that your hair will turn grey. Depending on the quantity of music, you might find it time and cost effective to simply pay someone to transcribe it. I've no idea what the going rate is but last time I was asked to transcribe I quoted a rate of 7/4 parts of music which seemed acceptable all round.
