Unless there is some property related to bagpipes that prevents UV radiation, blocks glare, or makes me see better than my prescription sunglasses, I'll wear them whenever I feel more comfortable wearing them. Probably not inside during a church service or a funeral, but outside, you bet.

If someone told me I had to cut off my pony tail to play in a band I probably wouldn't. Fortunately the band I play in seems way more interested in how you play than how you look. Not that the uniforms don't look sharp too!

Well beards are just fine in the Army, it seems!

Such as the one worn by the Pipe Major of The Black Watch

and as far as mustaches go, it's hard to beat this one, worn by a piper of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders

Default pipes & sunglasses?

Beards are generally not allowed in the army. This is to ensure the best seal possible with respirators. Moustaches are ok.

Having said that, our (Seaforth) PM had a full beard for as long as I can remember.

I am now with the Delta Police Pipe Band. We just did an event today and everyone removed their sunglasses for the parade, despite the glare.

I have trouble seeing outside without my sunglasses on - mostly because I've worn them almost daily for the last 12 years. When I go into performance/competition, I still wear them because I need to be able to see.
