Default Pipe Tunes for the Season

Greetings to All,

The Winter Solstice is soon upon us... and
quickly followed by Christmas... and the last
day of this year... and then... the New Year!! :)

Time to limber up the pipes... and bring out
some tunes for the Solstice Fires... and the
Yuletide... the Hogmanay... and the greeting
of... the New Year!!

Any particular tunes... songs... or hymns...
that any here... or out there... rejoice to
play?

Send us a shout... Give us a Post... :)

With Warmest Regards... and... the

Season's Best... to All !! :)

Pip01

I’ve spent the last 3 weeks piping 6 times daily at the Texas Tech University International Cultural Center for elementary school kids as they learn about Hogmanay and a few other celebrations from other countries.

My go to is Jingle Bells, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Deck the Halls, and Auld Lang Syne. Kids connect well to the former and the latter seems appropriate, but I look forward to hearing what others play for Hogmanay.

In the Bleak Midwinter works very well on the pipe. As does, Good King Wenceslaus, O' Come All ye Faithful, I Saw Three Ships, and a slew of others. I seem to recall that I had Angels We Have Heard On High going a couple of years back.

This year, I have been playing We Wish You a Merry Christmas, We Three Kings, O' Tannenbaum, Joy to the World (in Gmaj), Silent Night (with low G taped down to play low F#), In the Bleak Midwinter, Good King Wenceslas and I Saw Three Ships. I am also working on duets (with fiddle) for Jingle Bell Rock and Winter Wonderland but those aren't quite sussed yet.

The classic Charles Wesley hymn “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” is beautiful on the pipes.

Matt,

That is the old Welsh tune "Hyfrydol," and long
the favorite... of many. :)

Regards,

Some retailers sell that tune book "Santas favorite pipe tunes." Anything worth having a look at in there?
