My previous pipe major used to compete quite a bit, both solo and band. He is more than willing to work with me. In addition to that, I may find someone I can sit with monthly as well (time is my primary constraint, as I work weird hours).
There are a LOT of talented pipers in this state. I am fortunate for that!

I personally think that every single piper should try solo competition at least once. Doesn't matter the level or sanctioned or not...just to get up there and compete with your peers and in front of a crowd of pipers.
