What happened at McCain's memorial service

"Regardless, his performance was deplorable... the version I got was he did not fix the issue, he chose to be rushed on stage and found out the hard way why you don’t disregard maintenance"


YOU were NOT THERE. You do NOT KNOW what happened. You are relying on HEARSAY which in and of itself is assumption.



I TEXTED the guy as a fellow piper and FRIEND and asked what happened and OFFERED my support in lieu of apologizing for the vitriolic criticising. How many of YOU did that before passing judgement?

You shouldn’t play on international TV if you don’t want international criticism, alternatively one could not overstep their abilities... you don’t see me hosting a Radio show, because I don’t have the voice for it...

Something falling into your chanter stock? Not a bloody accident - a disgrace is what that is. Maintenance is not an optional component of playing the Great Highland Bagpipe.

I used to use a Ross system - Every. Single. Part. was verified to be securely fitted and in proper order - Every. Single. Time. I played. Here's the shocker: By keeping on the state of my instrument like flies to you-know-what, I never:

1. have had
2. currently have
-or-
3. ever will have

very far to go to get back to 100%.

Our instrument seems to be the subject of dubious standards, many people defending disgraceful posers for one reason or other. As a reality check, ask yourself: If a violinist (or clarinetist, trumpeter, etc) made the equivalent showing as this "piper", what would be said?
