Going to Scotland this summer to play at the worlds again. I'm thinking of buying a cheap smart phone (unlocked) like this one for the trip. I tried to buy a cheapo phone last time I was over in '15, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work!
![]() **** http://www.londondrugs.com/rca-dual-.../L6571368.html **** At any rate ... I'm wondering. Can I just buy this thing, and then buy a cheap sim card when we land in Glasgow? Will it work? TIA folks, Cheers, Scot.

I don't know about that specific phone working on UK networks, but how about buying something cheap/used on Amazon UK, or ebayUK and get it posted over?
That way you could definitely just buy a sim card and slot it in. Might be a bit cheaper that $129, even allowing for postage? Just a thought. |

http://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only If you buy from Tesco they will show you how to use the phone. There are some very simple phones there for less than £30, Smart phones for not much more. Why not call and ask them to send you one so you can practice using it before you travel. Or Perhaps you know someone in Scotland that would do that for you. Paul

How long are you going for? Do you really need a technological pacifier?
If you do, simply pick up one locally and get the rep to assist you in how to use it. Isn't a phone, a phone? Charlie

You could also call your carrier and ask them what they recommend.
This last summer I took my iPhone with me to Scotland. I just had to call Verizon and let them know when I would be there and to allow me to use a foreign network. I think it cost me an extra dollar per day or something like that. |

Paul[/QUOTE] Greetings to All, When I was last in England and Wales... as Paul mentions above... I used Tesco... and they quite easily eased the way... ....even for such a techno-invalid... as myself. :) Also... it was remarkably... in-expensive. And... as noted above... most of us don't really need one... but... usually prefer to have such... just in case... there arise any difficulties... back from whence we came. Best of Good Fortune with your trip!! Regards to All, Pip01

I may just take my iPhone, remove the SIM I have in there, and see if I can buy one over there that'll work.

Thanks Green, no pacifier required. Just need to be able to stay in touch with band mates, wife, etc. Otherwise I'd be happy to leave the bloody thing at home. Texting is the way we go these days!
