Default Replacement rod for a Rh chanter cap

Buying a near $20 replacement rod ( with small finger ‘handle’ at one end and a soft plug at the other) can be more economically put together by using a cut length of wire coat hanger...tipped with a few options: a piece of eraser cut to the right plug size and expoxied in place , a ‘ safety tip’ sometimes found on the end of sharp screws under the car hood, .these can be bought at a hardware store,... or form a plug out of tube silicon or caulk...

The handle can be almost anything ...and maybe large than ‘store bought’ to help prevent loss. Or nothing more than the coat hanger wire bent into a circle.

The saved $20 might get you 1 pint at the Wurrld’s.

Definitely........sounds perfect...I think I was struggling to think of precisely that...with a few of them taking up space since last year in the catch all on my dresser.

A length of appropriate diameter hardwood dowel and a pencil sharpener. It just needs to go past HA.

Another good idea. I’d worry about sitting on it. The point could be spritzed with anti slip carpet backing spray to help stopper it;

.well,...I just happen to still have a 95% unused can of it. ...maybe I should make a few gross of these replacements for us$2 on eBay. ( plus shipping )

I have a cap to help maintain reed Rh using crystals + a long thin metal rod with a conical rubber stopper up through the bore to temporarily seal the open bottom of the reed seat.

The OEM replacement ‘wire coat hanger’ rod retails for about us$18 which the market apparently bears. Looking at it, I always see ca $1.50. ...so I’ve always been careful not to misplace it after almost 15 yrs.

There is a newer cap now on market to also maintain Rh but the reed seat is left open...no rod/ stopper..

I'm guessing Rh is "Relative humidity"? and not the Rhesus factor in blood types ( e.g O+, A-).
