Default Where were SFU?

One of the big stories is the disappearance of SFU from the top three. For years they placed either first or second. Does anyone have insight into it?

Nothing too odd. I imagine there was some personnel turnover, which does make a difference - but my perception over the years was that SFU remained the same while others improved.

How a band survives for years on end playing at the very top level with no-one around to objectively measure against - it's really impressive stuff. Scottish Power can go out week after week and know exactly where they are - the SFUs of this world have to walk into a completely different climate and deliver a world-class performance from nowhere.

Well, from Burnaby at least.

Got a list of who placed where? I haven't found it yet.

I had a theory the other day.

Expression-wise I find SFU the most musical band out there, but this style of playing doesn't lend itself to uniformity. In the last few years bands like Field Marshall have developed incredible note accuracy but their style seems to have become a little cold and straight in order to do so.

Just a theory.

I think the OP was inquiring about the fact that SFU has finished in the top three every single year since 1995 (except 1998) until 2012. Now three years in a row, no top 3 finish.

When a top band declines, it often takes longer than you might expect for it to actually start getting the results that are appropriate. Shotts were a good example of this from say 2000 or so onwards.

Shotts who won the Worlds in 2000, 2003, and 2005. Right.

That was exactly my point. In 2005 I watched the entire grade 1 contest end to end. My opinions are just that, my opinions, but they came second in both elements that year. In 2003 they received a 6th in piping from one judge.
