Default Happy Chinese New Year of the Horse

身體健康, 心想事成!

I am just back from a stent in China. Eat orange citrus today and you will have better luck.

Default Tunes for Chinese New Year

I worked up a setting of Zi Zh Diao last year for a Lunar New Year Festival gig that was postponed to a date I could not accomodate. A different version of the tune is on one of The Whistlebinkies Albums. There must be New Year's tunes from all of the many cultures that celebrate Lunar New Year that woud work on bagpipes. Anyone have any?

It's the year of the Horse. How about Bruce Gandy's Farewell to the Iron Horse?

Up here in Seattle, we have a cultural fusion event known as Gung Haggis Fat Choy. There are several videos on YouTube that might provide some inspiration. The official GHFC website is here:

There was a group called Canadian Massed Bands that arranged travel tours for pipers and drummers to many places around the world. They played in the Rose Bowl Parade about ten years ago, in the pouring rain. I recall that they had some Chinese folk tunes in their music book.

Here si a quote from an old webpage: Not surprisingly, the Canadian Massed Pipes and Drums have accepted an invitation from The People's Republic of China to tour their country in 2003.

My copy is long gone.

Maybe sombody in the Canadian Massed Bands, if they still exist, could share some.

Cheers! Phil

That group now calls itself The Pipes and Drums of Canada and has a website at the following URL:

http://www.pipesanddrumsofcanada.com/

There is contact info on the website.
