Default Famous pipers who, arenít/werenít Gold Medalists?

I very interested in potential examples of pipers who were well known characters and had a reputation and maybe even left a mark in the piping world, but who werenít really into competing or who never won Gold Medals. I am certain there were, I think Gordon Duncan lost interest in competing when he was young didnít he?

But yes, I pretty much created this thread, as I am just very interested to hear potential stories from the piping world as it is surely full of all kinds of colourful characters.

I like this thread. Gonna grab some popcorn.

Surely there are even some "colourful characters" here that are very competent, and musical without being "famous" or won a medal or even having competed in Grade 1.

Just throwing this out there.... would not Mr. Dunsire be one?

You just threw a fly in my buttermilk.
I was debating between:

2. Rowdy Piper-quite "famous" and non pipers knew he played pipes
3. Glen Campbell-not as "famous" but many of his fans knew he played pipes
4. Phil Collins types. Wildly famous, but few outside of those who saw him try to play on Letterman knew he 'attempted' to play pipes.

1. Eric Rigler. People don't know his name. But the dude's provided music for 3 "Best Pictures", two of which one "Best Score" and he actually appeared in at least one of them. Two, maybe. Did they show him in Titanic? I know he appeared in Million Dollar Baby. Course, he's contributed to many other movies, TV shows, commericals. And played for some highly televised funerals. Also, he's good. Better than the other people on my list. Although, to Roddy's credit, he never stopped trying to learn proper technique.

But...it's hard to say. With the reach of viral crud on social media....
