#2. I'm also a spinner, knitter, and weaver (Grade 2 spinner, Grade 4 piper...) He said I'd never have the time to learn to pipe, AND do all the fiber stuff, so I needed to quit one or the other.
That one I thought about, and after due consideration, decided he was right, there WASN'T enough time in the day to do both. So I quit housecleaning, and concentrated on the piping and spinning, and I've been much happier...

Good choice, Linz!! The cleaning ye have with you always... or something like that...

Knowing what I know now, I would never have played a Canmore bag. Leather is much better under my arm. And I wouldn't have used that first, "water trap," which was a piece of copper staple pushed through a cork and stuck into the blowstick stock. SERIOUSLY restricted airflow.

Had that too, could've done without the rap over the knuckles with a ruler to emphasise the fact

Having started to learn on the chanter my French teacher in a Paris pipeband told my that i had to learn the french style of writing music- one octave lower than Scottish- no gabcdefg but doe ray me etc - I also had to memorise the tune and play it while marching to the beat.
All that at 4 months learning- my brain could not handle it
At 6 months at glasgow school of piping my instructeur was shouting at me to play an A or B etc !!!
A what ????
One week later I changed pipe bands and instructor .

Worst advice I ever heard someone giving to a learner :"if you can't get all the notes in in time with the tune, just miss some of them out"

Worst advice I ever received (at school) : "you're not in the band to enjoy playing, it's about winning prizes"
