Default Medley Challenge

Something I've been wrestling with in the dead space : Play medleys of tunes that are similar enough to cause confusion if one does not keep focus, such as Hard Times, Come Again No More; The Bantry Girl's Lament, The Wearin' Of The Green; The Rowan Tree or VE Day+75 and The Sweet Maid of Mull. Once you can breeze through without switching tracks, change the order.
Anyone else?

With pipe band tunes it's

Pipe Major Willie Gray's Farewell>The Atholl and Breadalbane Gathering

that I'll slip into one from the other.

I think it's much worse in Irish music.

There are hundreds of reels in A dorian that have nearly identical 2nd parts.

(They're nearly all 2-part reels.)

It's common at Irish sessions for at least one of the players to go into a different 2nd part initially, when playing one of these. Of course as soon as the group gets into it everyone gets reminded of how it goes.

It's happened where the majority of a session will go into a different 2nd part! So many of them are identical in the 1st and 2nd bars, only in the 3rd bar will they have a couple different notes.

Historically this is due to the 1st part being regarded as "the tune" and the 2nd part being regarded as "the turn". What you have is a small number of turns being used for a vast number of tunes.
