Default Re: Recommended drone reeds for McCallum AB4's

McCallums are pretty accepting of reeds. In my older (2007) McCallums, I've used Ezeedrone, Canning, Henderson Harmonic, and Crozier Carbon reeds to good effect. My current preferred reeds in them are Ezee tenors and an X-Treme or Henderson Harmonic bass.

I have two students with recent (2014[?] and 2017) McCallums. Their pipes are both going quite well with Ezee tenors and inverted Ezee basses.

I play Lawries, upon which McCallum are largely based. I find Selbie tenors are a very good match. XTREME, Balance Tone High Resonance, and Kinnaird Evolution have all had good results in the bass, with the Kinnaird being the least finicky of the lot.

That said, the MG White Mambas have certainly caught my attention.

+1 for Selbies. Easy to work with, air efficient, tune right where you want them, and a lovely sound in McCallums. Several of my students play this combination.
