I don't remember there being a border pipes setting when I looked at the website.

Ha, too true... I do love my borders though.
Right now I think they are my favorite, dont tell the other pipes though, they might get offended.

Does it do high G sharp? D sharp? The lack of those notes is the main complaint I have about my Fagerstrom.

Yes the Deger plays a fully cromatic scale (including a Bb), plus a high b, but unfortunatly no low g# ... the fingering for the high b and g# are a little odd though...
The G# is a pibroch G (Gnat, with middle-finger down)
The high B is the normal fingering for G# (high A, with pointer-finger and middle-finger down)

The D# is also odd, it is a D with the middle-finger down

Now that I am listening to the sound sample of the SSP sound,I have to say that the deger's is much better, it is much more full and "less practice chantery"... It has that cane reeded HM SSP sound, rather than that plastic reeded Practice Pipe sound...
Although, that E drone is a nice feature.

IDK, I think the deger sound a bit better overall.

The difference in sound was one of the reasons why I chose the Deger over the Fagerstrom Technochanter. I'm glad that the newer Technopipes has caught-up with the Deger's feature-rich flexibility, but I'm still disappointed that the sound has not also been improved. The GHB chanter sound is about the same, and I guess I could get used to it eventually, but the smallpipe chanter sound is interolerable. The baritone drone sound is interesting, but I don't use an electronic chanter to practice or perform the drones, so it's more of a novelty than anything and would likely go unused by me anyway because the smallpipe chanter sound is so annoying I'd never use it.

Regardless, it's a good product and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for what it's intended - another practice tool for learning tunes and working on your technique. At this price point, the Technopipes are certainly going to give Deger a run for the money.

In 2009 I believe, the newer generation of the Technopipe has a FAR better smallpipe sound than the horridly whimpy one you are talking about. It's heard here, sounds much better than even the first generation Deger pipes which I recently got, been wanting since 2005!:
