Default Used set of Northumbrian Pipes

Hello,

I have found a set of Northumbrian Pipes at an antique shop. I am no expert in terms of these kind of pipes. So I need an expert advice if it is worth it to buy this set:

What is the purchase price? We should be able to find a conversion to our currency.

Wouldn't hesitate for a minute, if they are not too expensive! Think they'll clean up nicely. Look to be by a decent maker. Hope it comes with a bellows. Also, make sure that the bag is in good working order. If it needs reeding, concider all those things when negotiating the price.

Thank you all for the prompt answers. The owner of the antique could not tell me a price. He is checking out. What would you pay?

It's a Burleigh set. Frankly, I would not bother unless the price is low enough that you'd be willing to lose the value entirely. In the UK, a set in known good condition and reeded would be about £300. If the set was in really bad order (which, to be fair, it doesn't look like it is), you'd easily spend that much getting it up to scratch and even then there are better sets available.

I can't see the serial number on the keys properly, but if it is a three digit number it is a relatively old one.

I'm trying to see the work on the bellows--does the leather look to be soft and supple or is there any cracking? It would seem to me to be a set worth fixing up for the love of something older, no matter what the cost. I can only imagine the sound of reeding these up after the work being done--to transport you back in time a ways...but I love the older stuff so thats just me. As long as its fixable I would be making an emotional tie to the thing no matter what its "worth" per se.

As mentioned above I am not an expert in NP; but I know how a NP should sound. And the reed has sounded very well - IMHO . The condition of bellow leather is fine. The key feathers are fine, too. But the pads under the keys should be replaced.

I hae a Burleigh NSP stock and drones from ebay. Had to get bag, bellows, chanter, make bellows inlet valve, chanter stock, connecting tube and stock. Wouldn't trade the experience. Let us know if you get them. Enjoy the journey!
