Default Interest in a comprehensive piping wiki?

A recent thread that I started, seeking recommendations on books relating to piping and Scottish culture got me thinking:

There's such a wealth of information out there on piping and related instruments, through this forum and other spots on the internet. Andrew Lenz' blog comes to mind as one of these fantastic resources.

I wonder if there's any interest from the community in seeking to curate a comprehensive piping Wiki, one that could be linked to and referenced as a comprehensive source of piping information, links, recordings, best practices, etc. (of course, those freely and legally available on the internet! Proper links would be provided for copyrighted materials.)

I'd love to work on this if there's some degree of general interest in such a project. I'm still very much a green piper, but quite tech saavy!

Cheers,
Joe

I would enjoy perusing such a thing, and if I could ever help by contributing I'd enjoy doing so.

I'm in no position to help get such a thing started... But if someone else does it- I'll cheer 'em on!

Glad to hear! Yes, I certainly imagine that to be the case for many on the forum. If they had anymore leisurely time to partake in, they'd likely be piping anyway! That was sort of my vision for the project: to create the infrastructure and get things going such that others could hop in and edit whenever the mood strikes.

The librarian in me prompts me to say YES! to this
Count me in!
There's gold in these BD hills, but we need to excavate and separate the nuggets from the dross (although the latter is also very entertaining)

I actually started such a thing, on what used to be Wikia:

https://bagpipes.fandom.com/wiki/Bagpipes

I am afraid inertia somewhat took over, and it never got very far, but I'd encourage anyone who fancies getting stuck in to do so.

Thank you for your work on this, Calum! And to echo Pip -- Perhaps we may be able to get some momentum going on this resource again! I myself am a bit busy this week and the next, but I do hope to jump start things soon and encourage others to contribute.

I absolutely feel this would be a worthy endeavor.

But a note of caution, I would take care to work toward being inclusive of (or at least willing to note) alternative approaches and techniques toward various aspects of the instrument. Hardly any one way is the only, or solely correct way ... and various needs of various folks invariably calls for equally various solutions.

Just my 2.

If you haven't seen it, Ringo Bowen has a wealth of knowledge on various subjects here:

Cheers,
~Nate

I agree Nate.

Just a thought on this subject based from personal observations.

If you want to create such a thing, don't really expect too much even if it is truly an engaging and interactive resource. There is so much duplication and information that any single, "authoritative" source would require the "WOW" factor and be subject to much scrutiny.

Yes, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter which bagpipe Ringo recommends, or which chanter FMM uses, or how Ian plays the ground in a piobaireachd, at the end of the day and regardless of resources, most pipers will regurgitate the same Piper Principal of referring to the advice of an instructor as the authoritative source.

Best wishes.
