Default Funeral piping for presidents and prime ministers

Hi Folks ,
I am researching funeral music for an article I am working on and I would like to see if anyone can add something to what I already have. I know the Black Watch played for JFK's funeral (mist covered Mountains) , and a piper played at Ronald Regan's funeral, (and I think George HW Bush) but what about other instances of pipers playing laments at funerals for president and prime minsters. Is it a modern tradition for US presidents?

Any one have anything to add?
You can email privately if you like,
Thanks in advance and all the best for 2020
Barry

I believe the Scots Guards played for the funeral of King George VI in 1952.

The Black Watch (pipers only) and the USAF P&D both played for the JFK funeral.

The BW pipers were in the funeral procession from the White House to St. Matthew's Cathedral. Rather than the usual funeral tunes, they were asked to play marches. They played The Brown Haired Maiden, The Badge of Scotland, 51st Highland Division, and Barren Rocks of Aden. They may have also played Green Hills of Tyrol, When the Battle's Over, and Old Rustic Bridge.

The USAF P&D marched past the gravesite playing "Mist Covered Mountains" in Arlington National Cemetery as the coffin was moved from the caisson to the grave site.

For more info, see the article "The Last Happy Days" by Robert Keith Gunther printed in the Piping Times (February and March, 2016 issues).

Eric Rigler was the piper at Reagan's internment service in California. A piper tried to play at Gerald Ford's funeral in 2007 when the hearse arrived at the Gerald Ford Museum but the cold got to his reeds and it was not a good result. I don't think there was a piper for the George HW Bush funeral.

I happened to be playing for a wedding at Boston College the day GHW Bush's death was announced. As my route took me right past his birthplace in Milton, MA, I stopped on the way back and played "Tthe Navy Hymn." There was a TV newsncrew there, but I asked then not to film it. What I didn't know was that there was a second crew onsite form a different TV channel and they recorded it.

I seem to remember pipers at Winston Churchill's funeral, possibly playing Chi Mi Na Morbheanna, but I was only 5 at the time. There was a web page with details, but it's gone now.

I can't recall any other British PM having pipes at their funeral.

I think that Churchill's coffin was piped from St Paul's to where it was embarked at Tower Bridge, but I can't find any detail on it.
