Id like to think that proper maintenance and regular playing would do the same as a fancy blowpipe and another MCS...

The higher end Pipers here are storing their bags in plastic bags to retain moisture as its quite dry year round, never heard of a case of BPL...

Greetings to All,

Hmmm......

Same as ever.... Same as before...

If such is worrisome (though as stated, it is rare)... toss
a couple o' three coppers into the bag... and... or... just
keep breathing that now breath-borne Guinness... and
single malt (or some such :) ... through the bag... and the
drones... and chanter... and... "All's Well That Ends Well." :)

How-some-ever... and nonetheless... I do commend the
young fellow... for his scientific perseverance... and his
accomplishment!! :)

Let us hope that he continues... and in various fields...
and with equal success!! :)

Regards to All,

Pip01

Hi, For those interested, I think this is the link to the scientific paper reporting the case of the 61 year old piper who was affected by "Bagpipe lung; a new type of interstitial lung disease?"

https://thorax.bmj.com/content/72/4/380

Thought it would be useful to point to the original article. You can read some of the article but the rest is behind a pay-wall by the look of it. There is also a press release though. Best to read this rather than the various newspaper reports.

This sounds like a great idea, but proper maintance should help cut down on the problem. That being said, I would still buy something like this.

I think it needs a full on trial to see what the effects on sheepskin, Goatskin, and cowhide are...

This is my day job. Yes, a comparison of the different bag materials - looking for differences in the bug types and counts between bag types would be a good first step. However we need to keep in mind that the original case, was as far as I can see, the only reported one for a bagpiper. So for now it seems a very rare event.
