Click 'Preview' on the link above to hear Matthew Welch play his 50th Anniversary version of Philip Glass 'Two Pages'. I'm sure you'll agree - exceptional playing - exceptional set up - exceptional version - exceptional music. The Little Cascade won't be a million miles from your mind as you listen!

Nice Music.

The text quoted "Matthew Welch is one of only a few bagpipe players in modern creative music" is drivel.

Depends what is meant by 'modern creative music' I guess, but I haven't heard of anyone else playing Philip Glass on pipes! However if you have more links, please post them, as I and no doubt others are partial to a bit of modern creative music, of any variety !

To be clear, I mean no disparagement to the performers or composers, only to the phrase "modern creative music" as it here limits the means to describe other composers and performers.

I have been known, on occasion, to play Nicolas Gage's 4'33"

I noticed that phrase as well, and quite agree I found it more than slightly rude.

It's all very well to create something new and different when you have the entire Western art music tradition at your beck and call. Any idiot can experiment with tonality and texture till they produce something that will stand up in front of your typical avant-garde audience.

To create something new and interesting within the performance practice of traditional music, now that's altogether harder, I think, and a challenge one does not see many of these composers attempting to handle.

Calumull - non-sense. That was about as knee-jerk as Iíve read on these forums.

There is nothing particularly difficult or exceptional about writing within the tradition. And I would bet you any amount of money that they have done.

I think you owe folks like Matt Welch an apology, and would suggest you think before you write.
