Default Tunes from Worlds 2017

There were two tunes that jumped out as being particularly attractive, one I'd heard and one that AFAIK I'd not heard before.

I was wondering if anyone happened to know the names of them.

SLOT reel: in their Medley starting around 5:05

PSNI strathspey: in their Medley starting around 0:59

I jotted down the first two parts of the reel and the first line of the strathspey, the tunes begin more or less like

strathspey:

|| LA LA B LG LA LA B | E E HG HA E E HG |

reel:

|| C E E LA LA C | D LA C B LG LG (D) | C E E LA LA C | E LA D C LA LA LA

I think I'll introduce these to my little group of smallpipes, fiddle, and guitar.

Richard, The reel that SLOT played is "The Sheepwife". I was happy to see the included it. It was a popular for competitors in the 70s and remains one of my favorites. Think you'll see it come back in favor. It's either in Scots Guards or Queen's Own.

The PSNI strathspey sounds like Dr Kenneth Noisewater, in Ryan Canning's Blockbuster book.

That must have been in their MSR, however I was referencing a completely different reel they played in their Medley.

Thank you so much! That's the tune.

Shotts played it following Annie Grant

No problem, and the reel in the SLOT final medley is a Peter Macleod Jr tune called Arnish Light and can be found in John Wilson's Collection book 1.

SLOT finished with three reels, Hogties (Phil Cunningham), the Piledriver, and Arnish Light (there's a version in Ryan Canning's book 2 also).

They finished their medley #1 with the Sheepwife.

Really striking how much traditional/mainstream repertoire is being played in there. Funny how the pendulum swings.
