Favorite tunes? Ones I've recently mastered, that strike a cord with me.
Hector the Hero being such, and I have an affinity for Sou Gan as well.

I don't know if other people are like this, but I'll get a certain tune stuck in my brain (in a good way) and I'll find myself humming it at odd times and playing it whenever I get a chanter in my hands, or the pipes in my armpit.
For a while now it's been Lament For Captain MacDougall. I heard it at a Games a couple years ago, went online and listened to several different versions, and got it going on the pipes. I find myself singing it to myself, it's such a lovely tune! Another tune that I just love the sound of on the pipes is a retreat I wrote. The first part has loads of F's and when my F is singing against the drones it's a very nice tune. In jazz too I tend to like the ballads, the slow tunes.

I learned it by ear off YouTube (some Grade One band, don't remember) and wrote it out. Easy to play and as you say wicked fun. If I can only interest the band in it, I have nice harmonies ready! I'll do that: hear a nice tune in competition, find it on YouTube, learn it by ear, and have fun playing it. The ones that come to mind are the hornpipe version of The Strutting Jig and Tommy MacDonald of Barguillean.

Oh yes, "The Man from Skye."
I knew I'd forget some things. Also "Lexy MacAskill" And whatever that tune is that's played by the clockwork-pipers in "Dr. Phibes Rises Again" (never been able to trace that one). Last edited by piper909; 06-15-2018 at 08:47 AM. |

How about:
Fingal's Weeping Father John McMillan of Barra Caber Feidh and The Black Bear are also perennial favourites. Kevin |
