Default Play it As You Sing It

Id buy Barry Shears latest two volume collection called Play it as You Sing It but for the prohibitive postage cost to Australia. US$168 is outrageous!

http://www.bradanpress.com/shears-collection/

Bradan Press has it for $32.99 US for Volume I and $54.99 for Volume II.

http://nwbagpipes.com/index.php?main...roducts_id=791

NW Bagpipes has both volumes for $82.00 US.

Using an online currency converter, $82.00 USD = $112.90 AUD. I'd use Google to check different sellers, and check Canadian currency as well, perhaps you can find a better deal.

Cheers -

Wes

Postage to and from Oz, especially for less common routes, is hellish expensive. I once bought some Ross bags & gubbins direct and had to sit and have a cup of tea when I learnt what the postage was going to be.

That said, $186 doesn't seem right. I would drop the retailer a line and ask.

I did a calculation using Canada Post to see the total price for taxes, shipping and duties to xpresspost a 9" x 10" x 2" parcel weighing 5 pounds and costing $100 CDN to Australia.

Estimated duties and taxes: CDN
Estimated Duties $10.00
Estimated Taxes $20.00
Total Estimated Duties and Taxes $30.00
Shipping $112.25
Total Estimated Cost $142.25

In USD that is about $105.45

Yes, your right, that would be for parcels entering the country.
Australia does charge taxes and duty though.

Value of Goods AUD 104.63
Freight AUD 117.36
Import Duty AUD 5.20
Import GST AUD 22.62
Total Taxes and Duty AUD 27.82

All in, AUD 249.81

Oof $180 USD....must be something awry. Who in Oz would buy stuff? Wonder how that works if it were on a cd or efile.

If you're a book freak like me, you order very book that comes up. It doesn't take you long to realize if you live in North America that the postage from outside countries is equal to the price of the book,i.e., The Black Watch Collection was $123 US. It appears to me from the ads that Vol. 2 is music and Vol. 1 is historical. It also appears that the author put a tremendous amount of effort into this work. If the publisher had made it soft cover and published over multiple smaller volumes it might have helped. I hate to see a great effort like this be hindered by the postal services. (I'll probably buy them once the shock wears off; passing up a music book will make me go "postal" (US term for "nuts").

You and I are one in the same ... in fact, I (jokingly) blame your catalogue for helping to bring about my pipe book addiction!

Also anxious to get me hands on Barry's latest. He hasn't put out a bad book yet, and I can't imagine he could if he tried.

Cheers,
~Nate
