I checked the Piobaireachd Society and the National Piping Centre--not either of theirs. College of Piping, maybe? They have a tie, but no picture of it posted in the online catalog.

In the picture of Stuart and Bruce, Bruce is wearing his CoP tie. Quite different from Stuart's.

Actually, specifically it's the 8th Battalion Argylls. That's our old tie, Argyllshire Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. (Princess Louise's Batt.)

You'll see a lot of people wearing it who either, were in the battalion, or had an affiliation with the battalion. There's a couple of bands that wear the tie, i.e. Dunoon Argyll PB.

Both Angus and Stuart have very strong family associations with the battalion as do a lot the Argyll Pipers, you'll see Lorne Cousin wearing it too. It's a matter of pride for us.
Although The 8th was disbanded in 1966 at Inveraray Castle where the old Duke received the battalion colours. (My father was the duty photographer that day).

There were so many Argyllshire pipers and composers that served in the battalion, too many to mention but the most famous being the great Willie Lawrie and of course John (Jock) McLellan DCM of Dunoon, also PM Ronnie McCallum, PM George MacDonald too.

I still have mine and when people here in the US see it they think it's a 'strange' choice of tie because of the colours, which almost never goes with the Tartan we might be wearing at the time. LOL

It remains as a mark of respect for us.

Cheers

Thank you for the full and informed reply.

That was an interesting side conversation about the A&S 8th Bat tie.

However that is not the tie that Angus and Stewart and now Angus Jr. are wearing.

A&S is purple, gold, grey/blue, black
nor is the Princess Louise as that is blue, red, green, gold

Angus's and Stewart's is purple, gold, green, black.

Anyone else have an idea?

The tie the guys are wearing is 8 Argylls. Which is also the tie in your link.

Interesting that you see the colours differently - but this is a well known phenomenon:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/we...-10074553.html

The colour you're seeing as grey/blue on the tie I'm seeing as green.

I looked up the history of the 8th Argylls and it's very interesting.

For those into regalia like I am, here's the cap badge

Here is Captain Robert Smith. As you can see the uniform appears to follow that of the 1st Battalion; this is not always the case with Territorial Battalions.
