Default Unexpected Tunes in Bett Volume

Today, paging through an original copy
of James Bett's 'Collection' 1899... inside,
between the pages, were 2 groups of
hand-copied tunes. They were most likely
deposited there by two previous owners.

I can't be sure of the age of these sheets,
but someone familiar with composers, or
when certain tunes were popular, might
provide an idea. They may have been sets
for band or for competition, probably before
WWI.

Pipe-Major Farquar MacRae is cited 4 times
in the 2nd group.

I'll scan a few, if requested, as time permits.

Default Re: Unexpeted Tunes in Bett Volume

Four tunes among the loose pages are
attributed to Pipe-Major Farquhar MacRae,
Pipe Major of the 7th Blythswood H.L.I. (Ter.)
Pipe Band.

(The least I can do, is spell his name correctly.)

Reel............The Cowlaig

Strathspey...Culseel Castle

Reel............Leap Year

Strathspey...Aros Castle

The four tunes are in the Ceol Sean
Cowal Collection.

Lloyd,
I did know PM Hector Mcinnes way back in the late 60s. At that time he was an old man, but still quite with it mentally. I believe he had been a piper in Stenhouse PB. There have been some other threads on the band and the fact that three of the pipers emigrated to the US and Hector was one of them and he settled in Detroit I believe that was somtime in the 20s.
