Default info on a set of Gillanders & McLeod pipes

I was given a set of late 1970's Gillanders & McLeod highland bagpipes. They're in pristine condition. Does anyone know what they may be worth? They are half mounted nickel silver, art ivory projecting mounts, rings and chanter sole, fully combed. Thanks, Ed

Greetings, edeward,

Oh you lucky fellow... you!! :)

First... welcome to the Forum!!

Second... congratulations on your "new" G&M pipes!! :)

Some initial numbers ($$$) did come to mind... but it may
well be best for others... and all of whom may well have a
better view of the present market... to weigh in...

Best of Good Fortune with it!!

Regards,

Pip01

Comparatively ...a new set of similar fully set up e.g. mccallum pipes ,...new bag,new everything with a 5 yr warranty would go for about us$ 1500.
imo, I'd value these up to about $1k if looking to sell privately.

Yeah, $1,000 give or take a couple hundred.

Ed, you can search in the Trading Post Archive and see what others have been listed for:
http://forums.bobdunsire.com/forums/...play.php?f=378
That only shows the listing price, of course, not what may have been negotiated offline.

I wouldn't sell them short. I would bet you could get $1500 for them if they are in pristine condition. They are pretty rare pipes.
There's a set of Gillanders on ebay right now for $1600.00.

Half mounts, even in great conditions are not in heavy demand. Very nice pipes, especially for Bb players, but I'd be surprised you get more than $800 right now. Good luck on the sale.

Well, the price range is pretty wide depending on condition, amount of bling and the setup (complete set, or just sticks and stocks, with or without chanter, etc.). Here's a sampling of G&Ms sold over the last 10 years or so:

My Gillanders set on eBay is not Gillanders and MacLeod but an earlier set of Gillanders. There is a difference and they are in unplayed condition.
