PM James R. Carswell MBE (A&SH)

I am looking for information about Pipe Major James R. Carswell (reg. 2968492). He was P/M of the 9th Bn Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders from 1914 and again till 1931 (not continuously). In 1930 he got his MBE.
He was born in or about 1875.
In particular I am looking for the following information about him:
- Middle name
- When (years from-to) he was P/M
- Year and place of birth
- Year and place of death.

He was James Robertson Carswell OBE not MBE. He was awarded the OBE in the King's honours list in June 1930. The Edinburgh Gazette article can be found here

I am compiling a list of Pipe Majors of military Pipes & Drums worldwide and have at the moment details of over 2500 P/Ms. In addition to the alphabetical list I also keep a list of P/Ms who were awarded the OBE, MBE or BEM.
I intend to publish the 5th edition of the book in November of this year and would like to complete your great-grandfather's details.

I would try a PM, aboode, as GMS obviously found your original post via a Google search and as he's only posted once I doubt he checks here often! But a PM should reach him as it triggers an email.
