Default Piping and Arthritis

I am starting to get to a point where the arthritis in my hands feels like they are burning after about 1/2 hour of practice. A doctor suggested taking glucosamine which has helped the knees and shoulder pains but not the hands. Has anybody else had this problem and found relief without resorting to drastic medication?

Cod liver oil capsules. Get a bottle and take three or four with every meal until the bottle is finished. Don't start again for a month. Repeat.

Olive oil with your food, for example in a sad dressing.

Got the cod liver oil trick from a Glaswegian plumber who had such bad arthritis he couldn't close his fingers until he started on the capsules. Sorted me out in two weeks.

Turns out that cod liver oil is a superfood too.

This has been the case for me for many years now. Back before it was banned Vioxx was what helped me to the state where there was no pain.

Since then, I have tried just about every type of drug, prescription and otherwise, to no avail. A few work on the pain but the side effects are worse.

In my case it seems to be a cumulative effect. If I play for an hour a day, over a week the pain will get to the stage where it will keep me awake until I finally resort to heavy doses of Tylenol. I can't take Ibuprofen or ASA because I am on anti-coagulents.

Massage helps a bit and I try to get a couple of sessions in when I go to a workshop that lasts more than a few days. Again, I tried regular massage and after a month or so it didn't seem to help. Only works for me in small doses.

I'd love to be able to play a lot more now that I have the time but doing so means after a few weeks I can't play at all. I recently had a two week break from the pipes while I was away on holiday. When I picked up the pipes the first time it was grand. Not the slightest twinge but after 30 minutes, the fires were starting up.

Oddly, Evening Primrose Oil helps considerably for the arthritic pain in my shoulders and knees but has no effect on my hands.

From what I have learned over the years as with all things, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.

I have stopped eating wheat and eating healthier and my hands are better. I don't have arthritis, but my hands and joints can be tight and sore and eating better gets rid of the inflammation that causes joint pain and stiffness. Plus, I feel like my concentration and focus is better as well. It is all so much better by eating correctly. Check this out... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbBURnqYVzw
